Hello OGEA Members,
I want to say how proud and excited I am of the community and structure we provide to our families and students. In visiting schools recently, I have been welcomed onto campuses with exemplary school spirit and a focus on student success in and out of the classroom. I'd like to bring to your attention a few events coming up in our local community that you might find interesting.
Wednesday March 8th is International Women's Day. In solidarity with this event, we invite you to read more about the event and to consider showing your support of the women in our industry that make a difference in their students lives in the classroom and beyond that have a lasting impact. To show solidarity, you and your staff can organize to wear the same color tshirt or stickers. The International Women's Day has chosen the color Red for their event, but you can organize your school to wear another color in solidarity together. Anyone, anywhere, can join by making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, in one or all of the following ways:
1. Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor
2. Avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses).
3. Wear RED in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman
" On International Women's Day, March 8th, women and our allies will act together for equity, justice and the human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity. "
Another series of events I'd like to share with you are local Town Hall meetings being hosted by Congresswomen Zoe Lofgren in our area this month. I know many of us have been engaged in the political events this year and if you are looking for more information on our local politics these Town Hall meetings can be an exciting place to get involved.
